My flight’s booked, I got my visa, quit my job and put all my possessions in storage.

As a result, I may be a little slow to respond to emails or approve new members until I get my new Internet account set up.

The good news is that since I now quit my day job, I’ll have a lot more time to spend on making Asian Love Connections even better than it is now. I have some good new ideas, and if you have any suggestions then post them here.

I’ll also work on recruiting new members to the site.

I’m pleased to announce that we now have 4024 members. This includes 2407 men, 1414 women and 203 ladyboys.

Many of our female members are from the Philippines. Filipino ladies are very friendly, and generally speak and write reasonable English. Take it from me, trying to date Asian ladies who speak no English is a very tough proposition. So Filipinas have a big advantage here. Oh, and did I mention their soft, curvy figures? Oh, I hope I can have a side visit to Manila or Cebu while I’m in China!

One other thing I found out this year – it’s now a lot harder to get a visa to visit China. It took me three attempts to get my visa paperwork right!!! I was tempted to jack in Plan A and head for the Philippines. I’m reliably informed that it’s not too hard to get a one year visa for the Philippines – more than enough time to get in, find a beautiful Asian bride, and bring her back to your country. Although you might want to stay – the sunny climate and low cost of living make the Phillies a very attractive retirement destination now!

So I hope you have a successful search for love in 2013.

Oh, and if any of you guys are interested in meeting CHINESE LADIES, then I should be able to do a few personal introductions for you.

And if you’re thinking of visiting Asia or going to live there… JUST DO IT!!!!!

So we’ve gone one better than DateInAsia, who only allow their members to upload a single photo. In fact on Asian Love Connections you can upload unlimited photos.

All photos are manually reviewed to ensure that the site only contains high quality profiles from people who are serious about finding a partner.

I’ve also made a simple to follow to guide as to what are or are not acceptable photos to add to your profile:

In short, head or full body shots are welcome. Members who upload more photos get a bonus in that their profiles will become more visible to other members. This is really important as the site membership grows (we recently had member #4000 join).

Photos where you’re not in the photo are NOT allowed. So pleased don’t post photos of flowers, sunsets, animals or toys.

The rules will be relaxed a little if you’ve uploaded several photos. If you’ve uploaded a good main photo, then I’ll maybe allow you to upload a photo of your house or your car or something. But again, I prefer that photos have YOU in the frame. After all, this is a dating site and people want to see YOU, not your car, house or pet fish.

I’ll see how the new photo uploader goes. However, I’m not keen on seeing photos that are too sexy. If you want to do adult dating, then use an adult dating site. The other problem is that people that upload sexy photos are often much more likely to be scammers.

So if you’re a guy, keep your shirt on!

Lastly, the photo uploader required a good deal of work so if you spot any bugs or other issues then let me know. For this reason I’ve added a “Delete all my photos” button on the photo uploader page. If anything goes horribly wrong, then just delete all your photos and start again!

So is it possible to find love in Asia?

Yes!

Is it easy?

No!

For guys looking for Asian brides, I guess the main problems they face are:

1. Thinking Asian women are better than Western women.
2. Thinking it’s easy to find a bride from Asia.
3. Thinking an Asian bride is the cheap option.

Are Asian women better than Western women? Often this idea is not based on hard facts. Personally I think the best reason to find an Asian wife is if you just like Asian women. Asian women have so many quirks and differences to Western women that you’ll have a much better time with them if you want to appreciate and celebrate these differences.

Is it easy to find a bride from Asia? In some respects it is. Look, there are estimated to be 1 million women with profiles on the Filipino Cupid dating site, but only 500,000 men. So that’s theoretically 2 women for every man.

Unfamiliar food… just one of the many things you’ll face in your search for an Asian bride…

However, finding the right women can take a lot of time and money. Look at my own example. I went to Asia to meet prospective brides on four occasions. I met some lovely ladies, but I’m still not married. In fact I’m so unsure as to who is my wife that I’ve quit my job and I’m in the process of moving to Asia for a year or two.

Of course this also shows that finding an Asian bride can be expensive. I almost got lucky and I wanted to marry the first Asian lady I met. But that didn’t happen. Instead I had to pay for three more expensive trips to Asia to meet other ladies. And now I’ve quit my well paying job and I need to support myself in Asia for a year or more.

I’d strongly recommend any guy who wants an Asian bride to go do the same and me and spend at least 6 months in Asia. Then you’ll be able to date a dozen or more ladies and make sure you choose The One.

All this comes with a price though. In my case I’ve had to live frugally for many years in order to build up some savings. I’m now in the process of selling pretty much everything I own.

While it is possible to work in Asia, your options are limited if you don’t want to do the usual teaching English as a foreign language thing. While you can get decent white collar expat jobs in financial centres like Singapore, HK or Shanghai, the drawback with these is that you don’t want to be too busy to go and meet some Asian women! And of course you usually need to be highly skilled in finance, law, IT or something.

So as you can see, finding an Asian bride is a whole different ballgame to simply joining Plenty of Fish and finding a date in your own neighbourhood…

Finding a Western Husband

And for Asian ladies seeking Western husbands, it’s no less easy.

The biggest problems I see are:

1. Ultra-picky women.
2. Women thinking Western men are better than local men.
3. Not putting in enough effort.

Women from all countries can often be fairly picky about their choice of husband. If you’re looking for a foreign man on a site like Asian Love Connections then the less picky you are, the more chance you’ll have of finding a husband.

The major compromise you can make is on age. Why not choose an older husband? Older guys are more sensible, less likely to have affairs, and will generally love you  a lot more than a younger guy might.

True love?

Another thing women are often picky about is the nationality of their future husband. American men are very popular. But don’t forget that there are nice men from other countries as well. Of course Canadian, Australian and British men are quite well known. But don’t dismiss men from Western European countries like France, Italy or Germany. For example, I know of several French men who are happily married to Asian ladies.

The good news is that it is possible to find a wonderful foreign husband. My first Chinese girlfriend is now married to a wealthy American man. They have a big house, a swimming pool, lots of cars… maybe soon they’ll have a beautiful mixed baby as well.

But the harsh reality was that my ex-girlfriend worked VERY HARD INDEED to get her man. She spent practically all day and night on a dating site. Her photos were also professionally done. Dare I say it, they were also a little sexy.

Did she get lucky? One other thing in her favour was that she had that certain mysterious something that men find irresistible. I guess you could call it charisma. I’ve met movie stars, and they have exactly the same thing.  I think this helped her more than anything else.

So it is possible to find a foreign husband, but it’s not at all easy. I still think that most Asian ladies are better off looking for a husband from their own country.

One other trick though – find a job in another country! Asian ladies are very popular in Western countries, and there are plenty of men who like the idea of meeting Asian ladies, but who don’t want to go to the trouble of going to the Philippines, Thailand or China.

Still, if you’re a man, woman, or even a ladyboy then there are plenty of people who might want to chat to you. Keep logging into Asian Love Connections and maybe you’ll get some good luck to come your way.

Keeping the Membership Base High

It’s critical that I keep the site’s membership base high. I believe that using measurement’s of a member’s trust and quality are the key to achieving this.

Behind the scenes I’ve also worked tirelessly to keep scammers off the site.

I’ve also gone further than most free dating sites by being pretty choosy on who I’ll grant membership to. I’d estimate that only 70% of people who register for the site are granted full membership. This keeps the scammers, perverts and jokers off the site.

Find Serious Members

While Asian Love Connections started off as a 100% free dating site, I have now introduced a “freemium” Gold membership option. While Asian Love Connections remains free, if you pay the modest annual membership fee (currently just $10) then you get access to a few extra features, like being listed first in the search results.

Why did I implement a paying option?

There were two reasons for this:

1. This site costs money to run. There are significant web hosting costs, plus the cost of my time. When I’m enhancing the site or approving new member registrations, then I’m not able to earn money elsewhere. I also need money to help promote the site in order to bring in a constant supply of new members.
2. Charging a membership fee is a very effective way of determining if somebody is really serious about having a relationship with somebody through the dating site. And if you pay for something, then you’re more likely to use it. In particular, Asian women and ladyboys need to know that the (mainly) Western guys they’re talking to have enough money to support them financially. It’s a good bet that somebody who won’t pay $10 for a dating site won’t be such a good partner for them.

Gold members have some goodies that standard members no longer have access to. Chief among these is each member’s Stop Forum Spam score. I’ve found this to be a fabulous indicator of how likely somebody is to be a scammer. Very few dating sites make use of this service.

Site Enhancements for 2013

I’ve got many plans for Asian Love Connections in 2013. The next major change will be the ability to upload multiple photos. Not even DateInAsia allows you to do this!

In 2013 I’ll also be moving to Asia myself, so I imagine this will give me a huge advantage when it comes to running an Asian dating site. I’d say the most popular subscription Asian dating site right now is Chinese Love Links. This site is smoking hot – and so are many of its female members!

I live in the UK and in my small town I see a lot of men with Thai brides. However, I’m increasingly seeing a lot of men with Chinese brides. In fact, two of my colleagues in my day job are married to Chinese women. One has two adorable mixed babies.

A runner up to Chinese Love Links is Cherry Blossoms. This site is just about the most affordable option for Asian dating. Sign up for a whole year and you pay just $9.99 a month.

While Asian Love Connections is free, what you get at Cherry Blossoms are tens of thousands of women to chat to, and from a wider range of countries than there are here on Asian Love Connections.

Surprisingly Popular Asian Dating Sites

I’ve been rather taken back by the popularity of Asian ladyboy dating. While we have over 100 ladyboy members here on Asian Love Connections, Ladyboy Kisses has been going for many years, and they now have ladyboy 10,000 members. These members are primarily from Thailand and the Philippines.

Asian Dating Sites That Are Fading in Popularity

Money is tight these days – it’s not 2006 anymore! As a result of the financial squeeze and the Internet’s ability for us to search site reputations, the expensive Asian dating sites are on the way out!

In particular, men aren’t going to throw money at the sites that charge $10 for a lady’s email address, or $10 to send her an email. Not when the very same women are on the other sites I’ve mentioned here.

So I think that these sites days may be numbered:

I spent over $400 on Chnlove in just three months, before I realised I could spend $165 on a Chinese Love Links membership and talk to 1000′s of Chinese women for that one time flat-rate fee!

Sure, Chnlove and the other sites have translator services that allow you to chat to Asian women who don’t speak any English. But the current version of QQ International has a fabulous built in Chinese <=> English translator! It’s so good I was able to have a good conversation with a single mom from Chinese Love Links who spoke no English whatsoever.

Other Dating Sites of Note

Thai Love Links and Filipino Cupid continue to be popular. However, men seeking brides from these countries tend to be on a tight budget, and can not always afford their membership fees. For this reason I’ll recommend Cherry Blossoms as it has ladies from both Thailand and the Philippines on it, as well as one of the lowest membership prices around.

Thai Love Lines and China Love Match are both fairly popular, but it’s hard being the 2nd best sites in their niche. I can’t fault the quality of Chinese woman on China Love Match though! The girl I met in Guangzhou after seeing her profile on this site spoke fluent English, was tall and had an amazing figure and… well she was one I let get away .

Vietnamese women are amazing! There are a few Vietnamese women on Asian Love Connections. I’d love to get more Vietnamese members, but the downside to advertising this site in Vietnam was the creepy Vietnamese men uploading photos of kids, body parts and other crap. No wonder so many Vietnamese women want to marry mature and sensible Westerners!

I can see Vietnam Cupid getting very popular in 2013. If you’re after an absolutely stunning and exotic Asian bride, then I think you’re gonna find her in Vietnam. Sure, Chinese women are incredibly hot as well, but I’ve been dating them for three years now, and yet I’m still single. That might tell you a lot about Chinese women!

Finally, 2013 will be the Chinese year of the snake. I hope you have good luck with your Asian dating experiences during the snake year!

Scammers and Spammers

Scammers and spammers are a huge problem on dating sites. I pride myself on taking more care to keep Asian Love Connections scammer free than many other dating site providers do.

I’m pretty sure that the scammer issue is under control now. I’ve certainly got the male scammers issue under control. Female scammers are somewhat more difficult to detect. However, the big clue I can tell you is that female scammers are invariably the more attractive looking girls! You want to date a perfect 10? You’re gonna have to take a lot more risk!

Reputation Management

Dating sites have a somewhat shady reputation and it can be harder to deliver emails to members.

For this reason I’ve invested my own money in a secure and trusted email delivery service. Unlike some other sites, I’ve also made it very easy for you to unsubscribe from out mailings and to leave the site entirely.

I’ve also worked hard to stop scammers using the site, as again, this has a huge negative impact on site reputations.

I’ve also been fairly ruthless in deleting profiles that are offensive, full of copypasta, creepypasta (who wants to date a wierdo?) or have fake/joke/poor quality photos.

If you’re using other dating sites, particularly free dating sites, then I recommend you check out the site’s reputation. There is evidence from the members of the Romance Scam forum that some dating sites are 80%+ scammer and fake profile!

Serious Members and “Just Looking”

If you’re serious about finding a partner then you want to know that the members you’re interested in are genuinely seeking a relationship as well.

I’ve spent a lot of time working on a system that will detect whether a member is serious about finding a partner. Over the course of 2013 I intend to role this out throughout the site. This should make it much easier to find higher quality members on the site.

One other thing I want to work on in 2013 is increasing the membership base. It’s getting more expensive to recruit members to a dating site – even a free one. For this reason, at some point I’ll probably introduce a premium membership plan. While the site will continue to offer free Asian dating for men, women and ladyboys, if you want more members to chat to, then the site needs to generate more revenue.

Not sure which country you want to find an Asian bride from? I had the same trouble myself. I ended up having to make some expensive trips to both Japan and China before I finally realised that although I dearly love Japan, China has the better potential brides for me!

So I tried this tool, and the top three sites it recommended I try were:

There were nine more suggestions, so I guess I’m gonna be busy for a few evenings!

By the way, just about every dating site (including Asian Love Connections of course) offers a free membership plan. These are great for signing up and checking out the hot Asian chicks on the site! Generally speaking you then only need to buy a membership if you want to contact the girls on the site.

If you have a limited budget then there’s also completely free dating sites like DateInAsia and AsianLoveConnections. Finding a wife on a free dating site can require a little more work though.

Personally I prefer the paid sites – if someone has actually paid for a dating site membership, then you know that they’re gonna be a little more serious about actually finding a partner.

In at number one is the United States. Of course this is a big economy, with a lot of Internet users. As well as that, I hear of increasing numbers of American men who are dissatisfied with their chances of dating American women. So it’s unsurprising that so many American guys are seeking to improve their love lives by dating Asian women.

Included in the USA visitor stats are those users using Proxy Servers. Scammers – don’t think you can get away with using a Proxy Server to hide behind! Here at Asian Love Connections I work tirelessly to keep the site scam free. And yes, I know how to detect Proxy users.

Second on the list is the Philippines. This country is home to the majority of the female members of our community. Welcome!

If you’re a Western guy seeking an Asian bride then it’s generally going to be easier to find a Philippines bride than a bride from any other country in Asia (or maybe even the World). This is no bad thing – Filipinas are friendly, speak reasonable English and love kids (if you want to start a family).

Third is my country – the UK. I’m pleased to see so many of my fellow countrymen seeking Asian brides. Here Thai brides are popular with older guys, Chinese brides with younger guys.

Saudi Arabia is a surprise – but anyone from that Kingdom is welcome to register! There are actually large numbers of Filipinas who live and work in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and elsewhere in the Middle East. If you’re a European or Middle Eastern guy seeking an Asian bride then why fly all the way to SE Asia when you could find love closer to home?

We need more Chinese women to join the site!

Asian Love Connections is popular in Malaysia. Sadly Malaysia is home to a lot of romance scammers. Very few “Malaysians” signing up to the site actually have their profiles approved. It’s possible to find love in Malaysia. Indeed my brother in law is married to a Malaysian girl. But you need to be careful, especially with Malaysian online dating.

There are plenty of Thai visitors to Asian Love Connections, but not nearly as many as the Philippines. The biggest problem Thais face as far as online dating is concerned is their general lack of English speaking skills and computer literacy.

Further down the list, well Australian and Canadian men often love Asian women. In fact Asian women really love the idea of living in Canada. Chinese women in particular often hear a lot of good things about Canada – I guess this is partly due to the large Chinese population already living in Canada.

Senegal makes it onto the list. Nothing good has ever come out of Senegal as far as online dating is concerned – pretty much ALL Senegalese nationals registering for online dating sites are scammers. Senegalese people are wasting their time visiting Asian Love Connections since I’ve now banned them from registering on the site. The Ivory Coast, Ghana and Nigeria have followed.

China makes it onto the list. I wish more Chinese women would register for Asian Love Connections as there are simply hundreds of our male members who want to find Chinese wives. If you know any single Chinese ladies – send them here!

The Signs of a Scammer

OK, so I’m not going to giveaway all the details that allow me to spot scammer’s profiles. But there are some pretty obvious clues here:

• Her profile photo is stolen, and the photo is really of the Internet model Raven Riley. You’ll find that this kind of photo is very commonly used by female scammers. Oh well, this fake photo has fooled plenty of other dating sites, as I found scammers using this particular photo on at least half a dozen other dating sites – including a couple of pay sites!
• She is also using a Yahoo email address – most scammers use either Yahoo or Hotmail. Neither company does much to combat romance scam fraud carried out by their members.
• The woman says she is Canadian – most scammers claim to be from North America or the UK.
• She also says she’s seeking a man of pretty much any age. A genuine person is usually much more specific.
• Finally, scammers will sign up to any dating site they come across. So you need to be much more wary of chatting to somebody who is “out of place”. In this case it’s a white, Western woman on an Asian dating site.

Be careful out there guys!
